I added a "Paper Patch Page", hope it helps some of you unerstand how they work with hard and soft lead.

Nothing faster for getting off a second shot.

Did I read that right? Your correspondent said that he could load 10 shots with no lube, just the paper patch, without cleaning? I've gotta try that!

Thanks for the info.

Yea, it works in his barrel, but not in mine. My lands and groves are equal width, with deep rifling, they all behave differently.

I've never tried any of this stuff myself and I certainly don't want to rain on someones parade, but I hope you realize that an important component of paper is very fine sand. If you doubt it, try using typing paper as sand paper. I wonder what 500 or so rounds of this is going to do to your bore?

If you have seen my bore, a little sand paper could only help. :rotf:

Daryl has used these loads for years, with no ill effects. :hmm:

Thanks! I'm wanting to use paper cartridges in my howda.

What is your loading sequence with these?

Tear pointy-end, Pour Powder, & stuff?

Yep, that is how it is done. Just check and make sure that the second one doesn't 'Back Off' from the blast of the first shot. :blah:

With this system, you can get a second shot off in 8 seconds...........capped and fired.

That explains why some toilet paper..... :rotf:

Hey BS. Is the over powder wad also wrapped in the paper? Also, I tear the pointed end, put card stock over powder and then pointed end first and stuff it home?

:hmm:

You can use a 'wad' if you are not speed loading, I just use a duplex load of FF with cream of Wheat on top. It kind of stays on top of the powder.

Pointed end first?

It surely helps

Getting the fit right takes the most time. [adjusing the number of wraps to get a snug fit]

Tear, pour, push..........no short starter, just a heavy push with the thumb, then ram er down.

I use paper patches in my .62 fusil. I use .595 balls to allow for ease of loading. Dont think they used to go as tight as we do now. I can get around 10 shots be for a swab is needed. Have been pleased.

If I had a smaller ball for my 7ga. I would use paper patches...........My only mold is bore sized, so I just use them bare, over a nito card and a lubed wad with a thin card over the ball. Shoots good.

If it's dry in your area you may want to avoid using paper.

We wouldn't want to burn the place down because of some glowing bits of paper would we? :hmm:

10 days of straight rain :shocked2:

I have not had the printer paper catch on fire.....yet.

Some of my dry lubed patches have though. :(

When I forget the under wad. :nono:

What if you nitrated the paper first, there wouldn't be much left to fall to the ground then... :hmm:

"What if you nitrated the paper first..."

IMO, if you nitrated the paper, you can be sure that whatever remains to fall to the ground will be burning.

I recognize that a lot of you folks have been getting rain up the kazoo lately, but by the same token, our Forest Service has already mandated a No open Fire, No Smoking policy for many of the Arizona forests.
Call me paranoid

I have fired hundreds of rounds of nitrated paper cartridges in my Walker revolver and 58 Armys and never once had any residue aftera a firing.

That being said, all the paper is BEHIND then ball or conical, not in front of it.

I did a test years ago to see if nitrated paper would burn faster than regular papaer...
YUP!!!

I soak tracing paper (which is lighter than 16 lb typeing paper) in potasium nitrate and water solution for 20 minutes, then let it dry on on a tray inside my oven for 5 min. you can see the crystals formed on the paper.

It burns VERY clean.

Having said all that, it would be great for hunting, but, of little historical value. ;)
