What is everybody using for patch knives? I am looking for something different that my present one, a small Buck knife.

I used to use my full size belt knife when I cut at the muzzle. However, I prefer to make a large batch of square-cut, pre-lubed patches at home and carry them in my bag for use. One less thing to deal with....

T.O.T.W. sells nice little neck knives. sharp as hell. about $25.00

Unless you are trying to be period correct just use what works for you. I often just carry my multi-tool, which comes in handy for field maintenance also. It has razor sharp blades and cuts a patch nice and clean.

I use an old stright razor blade that has a home made hickory handle I carved and drilled out so the tang could be epoxied in. mudd turtle.

If you want to go PC, use pre-cut patches. That is why they call patch boxes, patch boxes. There is little, to no evidence, that a separate knife was ever carried, just to cut patches. If you want to cut at the muzzle, just use your belt knife.

This my not be PC but the my Swiss Army knife has a built in sizzor attachment that works pretty good for me.

Here's a cute little patch knife by a Arkansas Quarter for size reference. A feller in Ohio gave it to me at a Turkey Shoot two years ago "on the prairie".

I have 8to10 bags and have a different patch knife on each one, all different. Most handmade. I never go in the field with less then 3 knifes. Its a knife thing. Dilly

the knife on my percusion bag I put together with a bought green river blade and a halft made from a bone...a short rib of beef, to be exact...the bag was my daughter's high school shoulder bag/purse that I took apart and reversed the leather, skin side out..that was in about 1973 or so...still use the bag and the knife. On my flint bag, I have a knife made by my buddy Bob Ray..the blade is from a band saw, and the halft is antler...Hank

No reference to size but it is about a 4"-5" blade. It's an old Drury, Ireland kitchen knife.

Here's one I made several years ago. I carry it in a sheath on a pouch strap, but I load mostly from a block when hunting.

I use my pocket knife at the range to cut spit patches.
