I've made the wax/ veg. Oil mix. Works well and doesn't freeze like some others.

Still trying to prelube patch material with ballistol using Dutch's method. Cant get them to not catch fire after shooting. Seriously, I almost started a fire last fall
 
I use a mixture of beeswax, paraffin wax and sheep tallow melted together and cooled in a block. Knock off a chunk, rub it on both sides of patch strip, then melt into it using heat gun/hair dryer. This combo is called "GatoFeo". (Ugly cat) I didn't name it, but it sure works good. I've used it during the heat of summer(90+) down to 10 degrees in winter. Hasn't failed me yet!
 
All kinds of stuff makes good patch lube: There's no need for exotic concoctions. Goop and Mink Oil are excellent patch lubes.
