I use nothing but pillow ticking and think thats the best or at least something with a tight weave
but over the weekend I was shooting next to a top shooter at Ft. Bridger, Wyo. and he was using
a real soft fuzzy flannel, light blue with little yellow ducks on it. He had a yard or two of it and
would tear off a strip and cut at the muzzle. I picked up some of his patches as we walked to the targets and they were anything but round but had no burn holes and he was shooting very accurately with them. I wouldn't have believed it.

It must be the ducks. Ducks fly, so why not use them on your patch material. :hmm: Must make the ball more aerodynamic with all those little wings.

Seriously, how thick was the flannel? I haven't tried it, but have seen some at the range who do.

Could be due to a light charge (generally more accurate than a heavy one) and an effective patch lube/ball fit combination.

Deadeye,
Sounds like someone is missing a pair
of pajamas :rotf:
snake-eyes :hmm:

I use it!
100% cotton, .012, I cut my own with a sharpened hole saw and pre lube them several ways....olive oil/bees wax, ,sometimes with a little MOS mixed in and mostly just straight olive oil. My results are good, good consistant groups.

my $.02

Sounds like we all need more information about exacty what and where can we get some of this new stuff. You say it's flannel with pictures of ducks. If you hadn't said that I would of thought you were talking of teflon patching material as I have some that has posies and green leaves on it.
Always like to try anything new.
Fox

I'm just using bulk rags we use in our shop at work...I kinda gleen what i'm after and mic it, I look for a tight weave that will mic .011 to .013.

cheap stuff, usually the local voc rehabs sell this stuff as rags...torn up shirts, boxers, diapers, nightgowns ect.

Could well be a material called Fustian. Its a mix of cotton and linen (flax) can be 50/50 but Ive also seen a 75 cotton 25 flax.

This was flannel , soft, open weave, stuff you might use for cleaning. No flying ducks, just little yellow ducklings. Sort of stuff they make
kids pajamas out of. He cut them about an inch or so from the muzzle. The ones I picked up were at least 2" across. He was shooting a normal load
judging from the recoil, made you think that if that shot then anything would but I'm sticking to
pillowticking.
