Those are good smoothies. Mine would shoot, like a rifle at 50 yards with a .530 ball, 60 ffG, amd a Wonder Wad and denim patch. Hard to load, but man, would that gun shoot!
And the good news is the large 1" barrel used for T/C's .56cal S/B can easily be bored out by Bobby Hoyt, etc, to a .62cal/20ga for $60-$70 bucks, resulting in significantly expanded capabilities if they're needed / wanted
I'm no authority...but given that my 32" GM 28 and 20 gauges did pretty well with shot loads on squirrels, I'd think it safe to assume a 36" would certainly be fine for general small game.
My current 20ga is 38" but I've had it jug choked so I really can't make a comparison to its barrel length.
My 28ga is 42" / factory cylinder bore and it patterns extremely well for not having any choke.
I've read that longer barrels let shot loads "settle down" and pattern better...but to be honest I have no idea of the science behind such comments...but for sure can say it patterns great.
Thanks for the insight. It makes me feel better on the 36" bbl. Got a gut feeling when I can have my smoothbore built, I may not shoot my .50 very much! :rotf: Which is not bad as I have a 13yr old that is showing a great interest in what I'm doing.
