Hit the dollar store after Christmas and stock up on the extra wide rolls of wrapping paper.

I go to the recycle depot and get cardboard works good .

The wrapping paper is good to... the dollar roll is 2 or 3 shots.

Almost 1.5X more paper for about the same price @ Home Depot! This is what I use, plus it is much more handy to store the roll than separate flat sheets.

After the local elections, I collect the candidate posters. The paper ones you can turn them inside out and tape it together and it is white on the back side. Just add your target of choice.

I have been known to reuse the butcher paper from our venison as a target backer when starting with a set of new sights or am having a problem where a series of shots are going at longer ranges

It amazes me when people talk about a pattern plate for shotgun loads I personally never use one because my shooting is done flying and for ground game on the move .For shooting flying the pattern is totally different to shooting at a stationary plate here in the uk it is classed has unsporting to shoot sitting birds
