Authenticity isnt a goal for a first bag project but the waxed thread I might check out..I`ve decided to use a gold colored tanned elk hide and maybe trim it out in a tan colored deer hide..I really need to check out these books a few people have mentioned..I have this fear its going to look like one of my wifes purses when I`m done..

Be careful about the wax thread. Of course it's easier to sew but waxed thread doesn't take the stain as well.

I`m finding a bag takes alot more thought than a quiver does for making.. :hmm: ...

is there any shape youre interested in or particular size? i have some homemade patterns i can trace an mail ya if youd like ive got two real nice flap shapes and a couple basic body shapes that mix and match well

Say now if you`ll do that for me it would save me loads of time..

That's not as much of a problem with waxed linen thread. It is with waxed nylon. Even though it's already waxed, I usually pull my waxed linen thread through some beeswax anyway to keep it sliding and gripping nicely and that beeswax mutes the color pretty well.

On another thread in this section, Leathermoose says he uses blackwax on his unwaxed thread. The blackwax is a mix of beeswax and pine pitch so it's darker in color. I haven't tried it yet, but would if I could find it.

Click on their name / handle. Then there is a choice called start a private topic, click on that. It will take you into creating the message.

When you log in. If you see a PT on the top of the home page, next to "Members" someone has replied or started a new one.

I have Gold Hunters pattern as well. Next project to do.

It likely does not matter what you use for thread affecting looks since most people turn the bag inside out after sewing.

Synthetic thread is good and strong, but the problem is that it is too good and strong. It will hold at the expense of the leather. Which would you rather replace?

I use linen thread.
