Walker's Rangers getting a pair of 6 shot Walkers and trading in 2 single shot pistols was increasing their firepower 6 fold. They probably felt like they could shoot all day without reloading, and also the story where 20 Rangers with a pair of Patersons each made a war party of Indians think there was 200 men behind a hill because they kept capping off cylinders at the Indians with no break in the fire. That was huge back then.

We can't compare 1830s-40s technology with today's
I believe there were 35 Texas Rangers, and each had a 4 Patterson Revolvers. Each Ranger carried 2 pistols in their waist holster and 2 in their saddle holster. That gave each Ranger 20 shots without reloading. That was a total of 700 shots. There were 300 Comanches. The Rangers devastated the Comanches.

I have not shot my revolvers since last fall. They are total pita to clean and they use a lot of caps and powder. Certainly I will get into them again when I have enough time and caps.
Easy to clean...l use dawn dishwasher soap and HOT water. I remove my pistol grips and rise the pistols off in hot water, soap them up, lightly scrub with soft bristled brushes, and rinse them off again. Repeat till clean; if necessary. I place them on a cookie sheet in my wife's oven, preheated to 300, for 15-20 minutes. Remove them from the oven to cool off. Spray them down with Breakfree CLP and them wipe down with a clean rag. As for the powder...lf your target shooting with a .44 at 3,7, and 15 yards use 20g, at 25 yards use 25g. I never load to maximum capacity. I use 30g close range and 50g for distance in my Walker. Adjust your powder loads, until the accuracy does not seem to be affected. Alternately, use a .36 loaded with 17g for 3-25 yards (this was the war load). Buy your caps in bulk (1000).

Captain Walker had Colt create the 1847 Walker. This used 60g per round and added distance to the Rangers ....Walker said that the gun was: “as effective as a common rifle at 100 yards and superior to a musket even at 200.” Yes, this was devastating for the Comanche and was used until well after the War between the States.
