I stopped using ties, i adopted the French method of a crimped ball end. I dip the ball end in a mixture of drying wax, holds it all together.
Oh yeah. I like the French method. Do you use a trapezoid or square paper? I’ve seen both. Do you glue the seam as I’ve found mentioned?

I use trapezoid paper, and the wax works as a glue good enough, it kinda looks like an Enfield cartridge without the tie.

I have old pictures of what Berkley Lewis identifies as 4 French cartridges made between 1780-1830ish, 3 of which have seams that can be identified. 2 are straight, 1 is trapezoidal. The other I can’t positively make out the seam, and I also think it is a Continental made cartridge (recycled paper).
