These things beat you up :) I'm a reasonably fit guy but 50 rounds fired at a "kinda fast" pace , with 100gr charges , plus swinging that 10lb+ musket around , will definitely wear you out.

People ask me "you only take 50 rounds with you??" I'm like "after about 20 it's time for a break, 50 is a full 2 hours plus of shooting "

with a tightly patched well seated round ball you can obtain good accuracy at 30-40 yards, after 50 yards it gets tougher, Hornday's .735 ball with a .0001 talo patch on a clean bore will get your best shot, sometimes scuffing the ball up helps too.

I have one of the desirable Miroku 1861 Springfields; very true-to-original engineering; even the flash pathway is as the originals, making for better ignition than the run-of-the-mill Italians...would love to run across another Bess at auction. There's two auctions near me that have scheduled periodic gun sales, so one's bound to come up! Nice that the Bess has correct stamps!
