I saw the display ones Dixie Gun Works had at their booth at Friendship last September. I thought they looked great. They were taking orders for them. Just my two cents worth.

For me it will all boil down to balance and handling. If it handles like a chunk of rebar on a stick, no amount of good correct styling will allow it to pass through my door. On the other hand, if it's light, lively and quick in my hands I won't care a hoot if it looks like a chunk of rebar on a stick. Ain't no sense in bein purty if you dance like an elephant.

Well, I bought one on April 3rd. Just talked to Dixie this morning and will be driving up to see them this Friday to exchange it for another one. It's a 5 hour drive but I have always wanted to see their shop floor. As to the gun it was absolutely beautiful. It shouldered very well and pointed well to boot. However the left cock screw was drilled at a slightly tilted angle compared to the right lock. This threw everything off with the flint keeping the frizzen partially opened at half cock. Also when the frizzen when fully closed it aligned perfectly with the front of the standing breech just like the right lock. However the right lock frizzen stood only about 1/8 inch off the standing breech as it should but the left lock distance between the standing breech and closed frizzen was about 1/4 inch. I talked their gunsmith to let him know he needs to look them over to make sure this was not a jig issue from the factory. He pulled another one for me to pick up and checked it out before putting my name on it. Anyway I will keep everyone posted.

I recently purchased one of these Pedersoli flintlock shotgH] uns. It is indeed a beautiful gun. Mine has a different issue. The trigger pull on the right-hand lock was extremely hard, and the travel was barely sufficient to enable the sear to clear the half-cock notch on the tumbler.


It turned out that the lower leg of the right sear spring was too short, and thus bore against the sear at the wrong position. The assembler must have noted the hard pull, for the spring was ground thinner in an attempt to reduce the trigger pull. Pedersoli kindly sent me a replacement spring, but it also had too short a lower leg.


The lower leg of the replacement spring was 0.374-inch, whereas the lower leg of the left-hand sear spring is 0.418-inch. It was clear that the right sear spring is currently being manufactured incorrectly, though they must have been right at some point, because the right-hand lock is the same one used on the Kentucky rifles and some other flintlock guns in their line.


I sent measurements and photographs to Pedersoli.

Received mine last week. Beautiful gun. Did some informal clay bird shooting with it and had no issues with trigger pull or ignition. Forgot my FFFFg flask so I had to use FFg in the pan. Ignition was a little slow but no misfires.
Some observations...
- Barrel key was extremely tight but some light filing on the barrel lug cured that. - Vent liners were screwed in pretty tight... re-installed with little never-seize.
- Put a bit of grease on each frizzen cam.
Test load was 50 gr. FFg/(2) .025" cards/1 oz.#8/Castor oil spray/(1) .025 card.
Worked OK but I'm sure it can be improved. Fired about 20 rounds.
I need to spend some time at the patterning board to check barrel regulation and optimize the load/pattern.
Handled well, stock drop is good. All in all, I'm really pleased with it.

Mine finally arrived last week. Not seeing any of the issues listed above other than the tight wedge. Chokes measured as advertised. Did a quick pattern board run to make sure things were reasonably well aligned. POI at 25 yds seems to be 50/50 for me. Shot some easy 5-stand targets, including doubles. Ignition was pretty quick and reliable. 5/8 x 3/4” flints were a hair too long to start. Recoil seemed a bit snappy until I figured out my Irish shot charger was still set for 1 1/4 oz. Dialed it back to 1 oz and it was more like what I expected. Probably fired 25+ rounds before the birdshot ran out. Handled well enough. Butt plate was on the slippery side, some checkering there would be nice. My fleece jacket probably didn’t help.

Amazing!! People who have actually held/fired this gun are enjoying it and reporting few issues (and those appear relatively minor). Big difference from all the earlier post about how horrible this gun is from people who never saw, let alone handle this gun.
Personally I am looking forward to being able to afford one.

Terrific first-hand report, and many thanks. I'm more of a use-itition than theoretician, so I enjoy how fact always seems to trump typistry.

Butt plate was on the slippery side, some checkering there would be nice.

A worthy point and an easy fix. Probably wouldn't take a couple of hours to address with my handy, dandy checkering tools. But I typically need a touch more LOP, so I may be inclined to form, checker and add a horn butt plate.
