It also seems that a too strong frizzen spring is across the board on Pedersoli's.
Not that my three is a good sample but I have examined several more in Cabela's and shops around and all seem to suffer this problem.

hmmm... if that is right, i do not have an answer to it.
all i can say is, that on every Pedersoli Brown Bess i have seen the lock works great - also on my own. mine is from 1979. the one from a friend is from 2008 - both springs are identical.

same is true with the frizzen spring on my Pedersoli "frontier" or "Hatfield" rifle. the frizzen spring is ok - i got about 70-80 shoots out of each flint.

anyway - that flint on that lock in that picture points too low.

My Pedersoli has a strong spring but I don't know as this being a negative quality,I've alway's had a T/C Renegade in percussion ,the only other flint I had was a old CVA which I bought as a kit at a yard sale fo 35.00 ,it had a fantastic barrel as the old one's. were known to have-very accurate-it's1-66" twist easily out shot my T/C,however the lock was not of great beauty and workmanship,the frizzen was good though and it worked well,point being the Pedersoli is a beautiful lock and works great also,I've heard on this board that T/C's flint locks are better ,but that may be just the coil springs,Pedersoli's are prettier and are more traditonal looking.T/C's look more business like more serious but less fun.
Please forgive the comparison but if they were ladies, who would you pick,The smiling,fun loving,pretty Italian country lass ?Or. ..the equally beautiful ,loaded,serious,American business woman out looking to make money and enjoy your company and fine wine and dinner.....

Bingo Black Jack. If you look at a hammer on a lock it pivots around a screw. The frizzen does the same. This creates two arcs one from the hammer one from the frizzen. You cannot change the radius or arc on the frizzen. You can change the radius on the hammer. This can be done by seating the flint deeper or shallower in the hammer or bevel up or bevel down.The closer the tangent of both arcs are the better the results. I have a lock that I could not get to spark well. With a long flint and bevel down the flint hits too high on the frizzen. That was impossible I thought. A very wise man showed me this. He used a much shorter flint bevel up and it hit lower on the frizzen and worked better. The flint also ended up pointing into the center of the pan not in front of it. I am still amazed at the difference and at how much we think we know until something like this comes up.
