My TVM American Fowling Gun has a wood screw for the forward lock bolt. To prevent the wear issue on the front wood, just leave it installed as it is not necessary to remove the wood screw to remove the lock for cleaning.
On the Pedersoli Frontier, the wood screw at the front face of lock has to be removed in order for the lock to be removed.

Does anyone know the dovetail size for the rear sight? I have a spare elevation adjustable .375” dovetailed semi buckhorn from my Pedersoli RM hawken. Would alleviate the need to touch the front sight I think if it fits.

The dovetail on my Frontier is a standard 3/8" (.370) or very close. I replaced the rear sight with one of the L&R Hawken rear sights from TOW L&R Hawken Sight You will have to finish and cut the rear sight notch, but it turned out great. I replaced the front sight with this one from TOW Front Sight

So if I pop that wood screw out and just match it to an insert and new screw at the hardware store should be ok?
You could, but if you go easy when tightening the wood screw, it should last for a long time. I will wait and see if it eventually strips out and then fix it. If a lock bolt will not interfere with the ramrod channel, I'll drill and tap the lock and order another Pedersoli lock bolt to match the original.

I like that plan. Thanks.

Well I’m going all in. I just told them to upgrade my order to the maple one in stock. Interesting that it doesn’t have a patch box, think most maple deluxe ones do now. I actually like it better without. So guess it was meant to be. :)View attachment 120084
It definitely should come with a patch box, is it the frontier or the Cabelas Blue Ridge? Same rifle with different finish. Maybe there is a deluxe version that has maple but no patch box?

mths onein the pic doesn’t have the brass nose cap either, id go so far to say that’s not the frontier deluxe.

I have the “Garrett Arms Norfolk VA” stamped Pedersoli .32 flintlock. Patch box pierced 7 places. Browned barrel. Very accurate and nicely balanced. Yours looks really nice!

As mentioned in several threads, the front sight on the Frontier is very tall and usually requires changing or in my case with my percussion Frontier I filed it down.

My Frontier flintlock will likely need some attention to the front sight as well. Quite a while ago I bought a shorter brass front sight from TOTW, but never put it on my caplock. For anyone using brass, is it easier to see or line up on target? Thinking of trying it on the flintlock.

I replaced mine with a brass one from TOTW as well. The original one was just too tall and it was too wide to line up in the rear site, like many others have stated. Plus I wanted a more traditional looking brass one as well. I went with this one below. I believe it’s .062” wide and .28” tall. I did reshape it to shorten it and filed the back square. Plus filed it down to .24” height.

It’s easy to see and lines up much better in the rear site which I reshaped as well to a semi buckhorn shape.
