I have b een using leather wads for over twenty years and like them so well I doubt that I will ever go back to felt wads.Especially since scrap leather is FREE in our area.
I've been hearing from many that leather wads were used back in the 18th century and many still use them today. I just acquired a Trade Gun several months ago and happened to think that the scrap leather would make good wads. I can't tell you how much scrap I've thrown away over the years, but I try to give all I can to the Boy Scouts, but I generate more than the local troops can handle. I have just about any size leather punch that is made, including some custom sizes, but the best one for cutting wads or cards for a .62/20 ga. front stuffer are the old vintage punches marked "16" which were for reloading 16 gauge shells, perfect size for a 20 ga. smooth bore.

Funny thing is I hardly know what shot load I shoot these days. I just use my adjustable brass measure and tip more shot in by one adjustment, irrespective of gauge. Especially using fine powder I get plenty umph so the old rule of equal powder and shot vume don't apply.
I do essentially the same thing you do I notice better patterns with a slightly higher lead to powder ration
