Pedersoli Jäger or Kibler SMR

Another vote for the Kibler. I have both an SMR and a Pedersoli Frontier and of the two, the Kibler is the better rifle. If you're into having a big collection then you can give the Pedersoli a shot but if you want a gun that you never feel the need to "upgrade" swing for the Kibler.

I had two Pedersoli Jaegers. Both had poor geometry locks that needed much work.
Standard model has fast twist, target version slow twist. Both on the heavy side over 8 pounds, probably 9 as I recall. Sold both.
Bought an in the white Kibler SMR in 45. Weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces on my food scale.
I have almost 300 rounds through it, and it is a dream to shoot. Great balance, great trigger, insane quality lock.
So, for me, the SMR hands down.

If you are using it for hunting I would buy the Pedersoli. Shorter barrel is quite handy and it is a great caliber. In my opinion the Pedersoli will be worth more in the future. Jim Kibler is a GREAT guy with top notch service and a fantastic product but he is selling so many of his kits that it will lower the value of them down the road.

But the thousands of mass produced Pedersolis will increase in value?

Kibler all the way; the Pedersoli is really only a Jaeger in name only. However, why not a Kibler Colonial or Chambers Christian Springs?

I forgot to add that I sold the Ped Jaeger and bought A TOTW .62 Jaeger kit. Not sure if it’s still offered. That was back in 2004ish. But I wouldn’t feel undergunned with the Pedersoli.

The quality and durability of all components are in another league compared to the Pedersoli guns. Pedersoli can make a good gun, but their quality control is lacking.

I don't have either rifle that you are looking at (YET) but for what it's worth I really try to buy American. My Sharps reads Shiloh not Pedersoli. I was born and raised in Ohio and now live out West. When I save up a few more dollars, my money will be spent on an American Longrifle from an American company. One thing to consider about your choice, if the rifle breaks down, Ohio is a lot closer than Italy. Just sayin Good luck with your purchase.

Kibler vote here as well. Quality is top notch. This is not a knock at Pedersoli either. His lock and barrel are outstanding and he generally values his wood grades differently (in a good way) from others.

Something to think about is how you shoulder your gun. SMR has a very curved butt plate that can be uncomfortable for folks (me included). I went with the colonial for this reason and for larger loads for big game. The Woodsrunner would be shorter and better handling. If you don’t want to wait that long, the colonial is a great option (I have two!)

I have a Kibler SMR 40 cal, that Rice 1:48 barrel is a tack driver. Go with a Kibler.. I ordered a 54 cal Woodsrunner around the beginning of October. I saw recently there is 6 month turnaround on the Woodsrunner but that may be a great option for you also.

With the price increases and lack of availablity I'm seeing now in other brands, going with a Kibler makes the most sense.
I have a 1:70 twist Green Mountain barrel on my .45 SMR, anxious to see how it does.
