Pedersoli Regulation?

How well regulated do the Pedersoli side by side black powder shotguns come from the factory? How is quality in general? Would they make a good fun/hunting gun?

I have two, both 12 guage. One was purchased new in 2014. It has 28" barrels modified/full choke and it seems well regulated. It is, as Britsmoothy mentioned a bit heavy, but I primarily use it for dove and SCs and I find it swings well in those applications.

My other Pedersoli is an older model made in 1985. I bought it used, and the gentleman I bought it from had 3" cut off the barrels and, according to him did a little file work to bring the POI together - although, the file work is barely noticable. He also removed the ramrod thimbles, and it came with a three pc ramrod that I use in the field. It's a grouse gun, and according to him the ramrod and thimbles were catching on the brush so he removed them. I don't know about that, but it is considerable lighter and more handy in the thick stuff. Both barrels seemed to shoot low, so I added a leather comb 1/4" riser and now it mounts well. It seems the drop on the stock for both are different. Both seem to shoot to POA now, give or take a couple of inches. Those are the only two that I have experience with though.

Mine is 20 gauge, cylinder bore and modified. Seems pretty light, and hammers squirrels, chukar, quail, and pheasants..., oh and a feral cat.

I had the 10 GA. R & L barrels shot pretty much dead on vertically but both about 10" of to the side @ 25 yd. Heavy. Turkeys n ducks. I sold it due to not hitting POA before I landed here and learned its not a chore to alter the muzzle and correct. WELL made. Mine had choke tubes.

In hind-site I would get a trade rifle instead. I have a Spanish 20GA shoots R& L dead on POA but is a check slapping son of a gun. Much better hunter (for me) and will be playing with it and some paper rolls etc to tighten the pattern.

They definitely make for a very fun gun. The fit and finish is not bad atleast with my two. In fact, I enjoy them so much, my cartridge shotguns rarely get much time of use anymore. To be honest, I would love to find an old original, but it' been difficult to find one in decent shape around here, or one I would feel safe using. But, I keep looking. Pedersoli is about the only manufacturer presently making repros SXSs now to my knowledge. Im scared to think what a custom SXS would cost, but I suppose there is that alternative too.

I have the "20 bore" SxS but it is actually a 19 bore. It has an open choke and a tighter choke, so I have to use two different sized roundballs. I do not use a patch, just a cushion wad and over-shot card. At 25 yards it always makes an "8" with the Right barrel the top shot. The holes are literally touching if I use a rest and reference the bead carefully. At 50 yards the loose barrel stays within a 6" circle but the tighter left barrel does not group well. With shot, I hit the birds or targets in the air with regularity and on paper the patterns overlap to the extent that you can tell.
