The WW or other 451s are' a horse for a course ' long range, But brutal over kill for short range like100 yards Where the 1 in 18" pitch 38 was better suited . . I shot a Black bear & a deer with mine if mostly Spruce grouse loaded to suit .Just my view each to his own .If you Google up' British muzzle loaders Alberta' There is an exellent video on the loading of the 451 Regards Rudyard

The Parker-Hales made in Birmingham are a big step up in fit and finish vs Pedersoli , plus it just seems more desirable to have English rifles made in England vs Italy.

So far I've only shot my Volunteer on paper at 200 and at steel to 300. My range stops at 300, unless I go somewhere else I can't stretch it out further.

I haven't fired it since March , I was still playing around with changing front sights out so I recall baseball sized groups at 200, from a sandbag.

Once I decided to put a Malcolm scope on it I stopped shooting it, since continuing to work with loads, bullets etc with the irons seemed fruitless since I'd need to work loads back up for the scope anyway.

Does anyone have the drop and length of pull info for the Pedersoli rifle or one actually from the mid 1800's? Been casting about the interseine and coming up empty.
Thanks ahead of time if anybody can supply the info.

If I was to drop Pedersoli an email they would probably tell me. From past experience they're super to deal with and liable to send you a part for free in the mail half way around the planet because you asked where to buy it.

There must have been a misunderstanding in Italy of terminology because the dimensions in the emailed answer are just not possible.
So I modified a picture of a Volunteer with a superimposed grid and scaled the dimensions. It's so close to a TC New Englander I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I need a 33" long barrel for the New Englander to shoot as cast .457 diameter molds.
