I saw on a previous thread that condensed mincemeat by Nonesuch is pretty much a modern version of pemmican. I love mincemeat but I can't seem to find the Nonesuch brand anywhere (My mom always made pies and fruitcakes with it when I was a kid). All I can find is canned mincemeat which is more liquidy. Might try cooking it down slowly to condense it and take it on the next trek.
