I was just thinking the other day when counting up my current cap inventory, how much faster they evaporate when shooting the revolvers than when shooting the rifles !
I never even gave it a thought before the inventory dried up and prices went to the moon!

shooting my single shot pistol I blow through an average of 12 caps a day. . I can easily tripple that by shooting the Rimingtons. I did not shoot a revolver at all from last fall until a week or so ago when i came into a decent supply of caps at a local brick and mortar store. Local being about 45 min away.

I burn thru 100 caps a day, once or twice a week. Our range is 40 miles away, so when I go there, I am in it for the long haul.
I don't know why it never dawned on me to load up on cap inventory because I did on lead and stuff to make lube. I suspect venturing into more flint ignition of late kind of lulled me to sleep as I can knapp out any gun flint I want or need.

I try to stay about 2 years ahead with caps and black powder. And yes, the revolvers go through caps twice as fast as the rifles but only use less than 1/2 the powder per shot....except for the walker but it never runs smooth so less shots are taken with it. I have an action shield on it but caps often jam between the cylinder and recoil shield.

Good point, I had not thought of 2-3 times the powder consumption per shot in a rifle as compared to a revolver but I bet it's a wash by the end of the day as I shoot the revolver many more times than I do my rifles when I take them out.

Just have to spend more time with the flinters now. Still means burning through 3-4 thousand caps a year for my practice regime. Down from 6 thousand. Good thing the flint shortages have seemed to let up for now...c

I bought a bb pistol Umarex Colt Defender and setup a range in my house. For when I want to shoot without driving. Dirt cheap fun and these new Airguns arent like when we were kids. Amazing technology. Lots of fun as an alternative hobby.
