About the only animal that really scares me is one that is acting like that bobcat. Normally, it would be gone long before a person saw it. They don't like people and they don't like to be out in the open.

About the only thing that will cause a wild animal to act like that is if they have rabies and if they do, there is no telling what they will do.

Some friends of mine were out in the desert at night having a party, sipping on beer or Bourbon and water and enjoying the fire and the stars in the sky.
Out of nowhere, a gray fox ran between several of them, jumped into the fire, bit several burning logs and in a flash, was gone back into the blackness of the desert.
There can be little doubt, that fox was rabid and my friends are very lucky the fox bit the burning wood instead of one of them.

I was walking one of my fields before cutting hay to check for obstacles. There was a woodchuck that stayed out in the open and didn't head for the treeline or a hole. Made me a little nervous about rabies.

Before walking back through i picked up a stout ~4" piece of hardwood. The chuck was still there and made for me. I gave him a good wack to the brain caveman style. Glad I grabbed the club

May have gotten wacked by a tree?
Or shot by someone and just injured. Hard to say.

I have encountered a few injured animals out in the woods over the years.

Probably the oddest was a Great Horned Owl while on a backpacking trip.

I saw it in a clearing in front of us just standing on the ground so I moved toward it and it kind of 'lumbered off' on its legs. It appeared as though it could not fly.
