Picked up an old N.O.S. Uberti 3rd Dragoon

Kinda interesting example. Appears somebody put it away (poorly) and never shot it. Some little rust freckling and a dime sized lightly pitted patch on the cylinder. For the price I paid I am not at all unhappy. And one particular feature has me intrigued, the rammer lever latch is the later style, and not what should be on a Dragoon? If it does a better job of keeping the lever up then I am pleased. Gun also has the features for stock attachment, guess I will have to scout out a stock now. Only markings are some Black Powder and Made in Italy on the barrel stuff under lever and the proof and serial number on the frame. Date code is “BB”, from the chart looks like 1992. I have some .457 balls and Minnies from the Lee mold (I had cast up for my Old Army revolvers) and an assortment of powders (777, Pydrodex P & RS, Swiss 2f & 3f) ready to go along with some #11 Magnum caps. Had to pinch the caps (very) slightly but figure they work. If I like it as much as I think then I will source some nipples that work with #11s as is. It is a bit of an investment to buy six nipples instead of just one for my front stuffers. We will light her up tomorrow.

just put a thousand rounds through it pinching caps and you will no longer have to pinch caps. then when the first batch of nipples need replacing use better nipples. they also will need replacing eventually.

I have one with a 2004 proof date. Mine was a gun show find that I wasn’t really looking for but was a great price. It’s a lot of fun to shoot but it has the correct ramming lever latch that fails nearly as much as the Walker. I’m curious why your earlier gun has the later design for the latch. Anyway, enjoy your find and let us know how it shoots. (Oh, and good luck locating a shoulder stock!)

On all of my Uberti and Pietta revolvers #10 Rems and #11 CCI's fit tight without having to force or pinch the caps. Never have a problem with them falling into the action, thus no need for cap post or any other this and that that some 'say you need'. If proper nipples and caps are used you can forget about alot of the problems you read about. My first EuroArms '51 Navy 44 back in early 70's was a bearcat for caps into the action. I had to pinch every one of those Italian caps to stay on and many would fall off when shooting. Reference my first sentence, those are all stock nipples. Slix-shot, Tresso, and Wolf nipples of the right size and number are just as effective. Having to pinch caps is time consuming and not effective. If that's all you can find, good luck.

Brand new product that got lost back on a shelf or somebody just put it back as an investment for the future. Finally makes its’ way to market and is a “new” item just might be an old model. I know some old gun dealers that would buy a stuff and pile it up for the future. No telling what was stacked back in the store room.

Kinda/Sorta!!!! I've ran and do run my cap revolvers just as fast with no need of posts and shields, although I do some fine tuning. Yer a great smith Mike and have always enjoyed your posts. You've been helpful to all, but alot of your posts are an advertisement for business. Some on the CAS forum have said the same thing over the years. All the best to ya but your way isn't always the highway, there are other ways to correct without investing $200 plus dollars into a $250-350 dollar revolver. Maybe instead of criticizing other ways and how other gunsmiths do their thing, maybe you should take out a paid advert here on the forum. FWIW I don't believe I even named you or your business in my previous post #5. All the best to ya. CC

I've been told time and time about folks not having broken hand springs, bolt springs, trigger springs main springs , timing is perfect, my arbor is fine . . .
Thus the reason for "tuners" to pop up that can actually fix "those" that actually HAVE those problems!! So much for Peacemaker Specialists, Colt Custom shop, Freedom Arms, Magnum Research (BFR) . . .

If that wasn't true, " out of the box" revolvers would RULE!!!!!

I could easily have become a paying customer if not for Mike's advice on action shields, short arbors, endshake, and timing. While his posts may garner some customers, his openness also enables many handy people to keep their guns home.

Revolver tuning tips from 45D spot-on !

Even though I'm long retired with 40 some years building ML firearms & tuning replica revolvers for customers
I very much appreciate the proven & well described tuning tips Mike/45D has provided on this forum.
AFter spending 50 some years shooting shooting mostly original revolvers I find his tips on how to correct the poor
arbor fit on replica Colt revolvers to be 100% valid.

Maybe it's my age & lack of social media & forum experience but I'm amazed at the bickering & negative feedback against some members
who have done their best at no cost to help correct problems.

I'll also say that Mike has been very free with his knowledge, most people with a business wouldn't do that. He's giving away money basically, and not asking for anything in return. I fail to see how that's some sort of advertisement for his business.
