put on a new spit fire nipple before shooting , and I have a slow twist gm barrel for it all ready , just shooting the tc barrel to see what it would do , it wont shoot prb or minnie for nuffin , i tried every thing , different powder , balls , patching , felt wads under prb etc , the tc barrel just dont group, i,m at the point of giving up on the tc barrel.
i don't blame you griz. matter of fact i have a renegade .54 barrel with the same problems as you have. guess thats why that barrel sits in the corner. :haha:

:v From your pictures I would suspect that the front or rear sight is moving. The factory sights will just slop around if you press on the rear sight I bet it moves a bunch. Most of these cheaply made "Adjustable sights" do just that, they "adjust" themselves from shot to shot. Try screwing the elevator screw down tight then shoot a group. It should be somewhere on target at 25 yds but tighter. If not then you've likely got a bulge in the barrel. :v

Man, my .50 New Englander will keep 'em all on a playing card at 50 yards, and that's because the playing card is the smallest thing I can make out at that range! :rotf:

My load is 70gns 2Fg under a .490 ball patched with pillow ticking (cold washed, air dried, ironed). Pillow ticking is lubed with 50/50 beeswax/olive oil, making it stiff but pliable. Holds the rifling very well, and recovered patches are still somewhat domed.

thats the other thing, i have a tc .50 hawken that shoots awesome. ragged rip at 50 yards. :idunno:

Take the offending rifle, pull the wedge, find a pine chip, put it on the end of the stock so it's between the stock and barrel, and reinstall the barrel pin.

I bet you anything you have too many pressure points.

Of course, using this method, you could start stringing vertically, so this is strictly temporary.

I bet though that it has to do with the barrel channel not being quite right.

I don't see any rifling marks on the patches or very little rifling marks. I think you need a tighter fit combo. Try a .535 ball. borrow a few from a buddy and try it.
