From Taylor's & Co. catalog description:

"Although manufactured as a an already converted cartridge revolver, these copies still feature an easy transition from blackpowder to centerfire cartridges on the .45LC caliber models. The Remington Conversion in .45LC allows a shooter to switch from .45LC to .44 black powder by removing the breech plate, cartridge cylinder, and replacing them both with a spare black powder cylinder (available as a spare part from Taylor's A1014005)."
Thanks for the info. This was given to me by my brother. BP is much cheaper to shoot so I wanted to know that
I have an 1858 Remington NMA factory made as (you know the word) my question is can it be retrofitted to fire .44 cap and ball?
Thanks for the info. Good to know I can switch to BP as it’s much easier to obtain and more economical to shoot.

Err, I think your chambers are a little large if a .475 ball fits.
You right, .475 would be bad. I meant to type .457 RB.
My apologies
They were Speer brand pre made balls. They seemed very soft compared to what I cast. I was kinda surprised they didn’t offer more resistance.
They shot just fine.

So if I understand correctly, I can try .451 and if they shave a ring and don’t move in the chamber from recoil (I’m a lighter load shooter) then I’m saving the loading lever undue stress. If they don’t behave, move to .454.

that sounds correct

if you don't happen to have any .451 and/or .454 lead round balls, then I'd be glad to mail you some of each so you can test it before you purchase a larger quantity...
