I get those spare parts kits from VTI gunparts not Cabela's I also keep on hand an extra set of springs for each of my percussion revolvers

I use that method with my cap&ballers, gently press the hammer down on a the cap to seat it down. Better ignition this way.
another plus for this is that the tight seal will keep moisture out.

I would leave the trigger as is and let it break in by working the action. If you do attempt stoning or filing remember to use Kasinet in the bare metal surface to harden the steel of the sear or hammer close to what it was...or it will wear alot faster. Sear angle/flatness and hammer notching.stoneing can be a little tricky. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/productdetail.aspx?p=7626

Makdaddy,

I used to have one of the Cabela's/Pietta 1851s. I used Remington #10 caps and they fit perfectly. Also, as was mentioned above try VTI https://www.vtigunparts.com/ab2240000Equick/default.asp or call Cimmaron for your parts needs. Cimmaron stocks parts for their Uberti products and therefore may not be perfect fit, but their parts are heat treated properly. VTI is sometimes tough with parts as they're sometimes slow. They stock for both Pietta and Uberti.

I finally got to shoot the 51 Navy yesterday. If all the Colt's feel as good as this, I can see why everyone likes them compared to the Remmington. I used 21 Grn. of Pyrodex P with a .375 Hornandy rd. ball. no. 10 Remmington caps seem to work well when hammer seated. I put about a dozen shots thru her. seems to be resonably accurate, a little high but acceptable. Had no problems at all, no misfires or cylinder drag. In defense of Cabella's, I put mine in the box it came in and sent it with the lable they provide and filled out the paper that was for returns and sent it in. I had a new revolver withen 10 days. I did have to pay return shipping though. I believe I could have called them and they would have payed the shipping. Oh well, what 15 bucks when your revolver is broken by your own hand?

Did you ever wonder what Pietta or Cabela's does with all of the guns that are returned? :hmm:
You can find them in the bargan cave  Always some there. I always look
Lehigh...

makattack,

try some .380 balls in your '51. you may be surprised by the accuracy difference. there is reason the .38 special is called a .38 and not a .357. :winking: :winking:
