Has anyone seen belt clips on pistols? If so, what was the time period? I'm not looking to put one on a pistol, just looking for an example and documentation on its date.

Thanks.

You maybe refering to a belt hook. I have put them on the Miquelet pistols I made. Dated to the 17th century...Pirates had then on their pistols and could carry many hooked all over themselves...
Talk about quick draw......hope this helps.....Wulf :imo:

Quite common on martial pistols. Here's one on a 1830's miquelet percussion pistol. Hope this helps.

I did a quick search under "belt hook, pistol" and came up with these:
French Model 1777
French Calvary Pistol 1812-22
Scottish Snaphause 1656
Long Sea Service (British) "pre"1764 & 1780
Short Sea Service 1810

Generally, it seems pistols intended for horseback, or more often Naval use, had belt hooks. The really big "Dragoon" pistols were attached to the saddle in holsters and didn't need hooks.

Pistols had belt hooks right up into the ctg. gun era. Even some late 1870 period underhammer percussion pistols had belt hooks. It would appear they spanned at least late 17th century as well. The are belt hooks on the 1700 (1690) period all-steel Scottish pistols as well.
