I just finished a Lyman Plains Pistol kit in .50 cal. I used Birchwood Caseys Plum Brown and I used BC walnut stain on the stock followed by 12 coats of tru oil. After the third coat I wet sanded with 400 grit to fill in the wood as it was very porous. The grain filled in very nicely from the wet sanding. I followed up with stock/sheen conditioner and then wax.

I am very pleased with how it turned out as I wanted the finish to be dark. It was my first kit, and I learned a lot.

Looks like you did a good job.

I know you are going to enjoy using it.

Maybe just as important, every time you handle or even look at that pistol your going to smile and say to yourself, "By golly! I built that!"

Looks good! It should be a ton of fun.

I'm not certain, but is the front sight on backwards :idunno:

Thanks for the compliments, and yes the Front sight is on backwards.

I'll go fix that right now, thanks for noticing.

I'm glad I posted photos of my build, or I probably would have never known. It made sense to me for the ramp to go up from back to front. Looking at photos of others it now doesn't make much sense to me. :haha:

Holy moly spicy guacamole that's nice looking!

Put the front sight on anyway you like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You very much. The front sight has been corrected.

I am very pleased with how the wood came out. It is "almost" to pretty to shoot.

I think my next project will be a maple stock for my TC Renegade. :)

The front sight was an honest mistake. I had to think about it,(Im not that smart) most firearms do have the ramp sloping forward with the highest point closest to the end of the muzzle! Gun looks great

Yes, I just did it without thinking about it. I can definitely say that from now until the day I die every smoke pole I look at I will check out the front sight.
