I am planning on purchasing some empty small plastic bottles with screw top or plastic cap tops for single black powder charges (65 - 70 grains). Is there any danger of static electricity in the plastic that might ignite the powder charges. Any information would be appreciated. I guess the bottles would be available from a local pharmacy. Any sources for the bottles would also be helpful.

Been using empty .12 ga shotgun hulls with a cork in them to carry pre-measured powder and shot charges for years without any problem. They are plastic. I also have some plastic containers that fishing sinkers came in that i use for powder. I think it has been pretty well proven that static elec. won't set off black powder.

Go to Meijer's or some other place that processes film. They will probably give you the plastic film containers, these work well. I usually put some black electrical tape across the top just to make sure that the top does not pop off in my pouch. I also cut the bottom off of one and used duct tape to hold it to the top of another, this made it long enough to hold bird shot cartridges.
As far as static, do not be overly concerned. This has been discussed many times on every board. Static is only a problem if you have bp dust floating in the air.
Hope this helps.

As Rebel says, there have been at least three major experiments testing static electricity as a source of ignition in Black Powder, with the possible exception of lightning :shocking: and if it were to hit Your powder horn while Your holding it :rolleyes:I doubt You could tell what killed You, :eek:The explosion or the electricity,Think about this,Pyrodex is quite simular to real Black Powder in the basic mix and it comes in "PLASTIC"jars! :peace: I seriously doubt that there is a danger present from static charges, :hmm: :relax: :: :redthumb:

Commercial speed loaders are often plastic...I have a few. No problems. I have also used film containers (go to anywhere that film is processed...they can give you "tons") Hot glue two together and you have a speedloader. You can also use medicine containers.

I make them out of river cane/ bamboo with whittled stoppers, and dye them red for a "danger" effect. I have sold a few at a couple of events, along with the comment " now why didn't I think of that?"

if you worried about static wash the plastic with dish soap and water...leave the soap on the plastic and let it dry. :relax: the soap film will kill the static charge.

I too have used 35mm film containers for powder and it also works well for pre-measured shot...

The soft container can be squeezed to make a handy pouring spout as well...
