Poll: What do you use your muzzleloader for?

If I could afford to hunt deer,I'm sure it would be used for that.

There's a great deal of truth in that.

Deer meat is several hundred dollars a pound after all the guns and the gear and the land lease to hunt on.

If it weren't for private property, I'd never hunt.

Yes and no. I’ve certainly lost more access over the last 5-6 years than I’d prefer and it seems to be on the uptick. I roam public from time to time, but I have 3 private places to hunt. That said, I’ve never paid for access and never will. 60% of our diet consists of wild game

80% target for me. Don’t hunt as much as I used to, but still do some.

I answered both but these days don't have much time for the recreational side of things. That really stinks. I tried squirrel hunting with my smoothbore this week but didn't get the time to really work with shot loads. The known limited range became a problem I'm going to have to deal with but next year as it's back to work in a couple days so no time to deal with loads.

Need a category for self protection - varmints both human and otherwise. I cannot be the only one with "some ol' gun" leaning behind a door for chicken killers and garden pests? Single-barrel 12 gauge percussion mostly. Sport, you see. Some may keep a C&B revolver for similar use. Fill the yard with pistol smoke!!

Of course, it's not my first choice sometimes, but other times for critters...gives 'em a bit of a sporting chance. Anyone else?

Took my first shot in 1971 with my close friend and mentor who has since passed on sadly. I had a smile the first time and never looked back. I hunt pretty much September through the end of January here in Pennsylvania. The remaining months of the year I am a fairly weekly fixture at the range and still smiling with every shot.

Bought to hunt. Shot to figger out how. Started formal shoots cause I didn't want to shoot alone. Hunting is still the primary criteria for any of my guns but they do ok on targets too.

Yep , primarily hunting nowadays . Love when I get a chance to shoot at targets or something thrown out in the yard , make it twirl up in the air but ....not too many visitors come over to shoot and always so busy in the gun shop or work on the homestead so. .. N.W. trade gun is primarily for huntin . Does d@mn good job no matter what I'm after ....

Come to Wisconsin. Too many deer around here. The Wisconsin DNR wants people to come and kill a bunch of deer this year. Otherwise they have to get worried about dealing with CWD.

Got a .36 rifle in the corner for critters bothering my chickens at night. Come deer season that will change to a
50 or .54 rifle. Didn't really think of it as a sporting chance. Just thought if I can hit armadillos at night deer shouldn't be a problem during the day. Range time, I guess.

I would imagine shooting with others would be fun. In 30 years of black powder shooting I've never shot with anybody else. Always just me.

I use my rifles mostly for hunting. That means I like to carry them for days at a time without shooting them. I do get to carry them, rub them, look at them, and feel connected to the past.
I go to organized shoots to hang out and talk to like minded folks, then look at their guns for a while.
