The point I was trying to make (poorly) was that by the time half stock rifles came in style, generally a heavily swamped barrel had mostly passed. Of course anything can be found since all rifles were actually a one-off build.

Some half stocks were made with wood ribs. I’ve only seen photos. A wood rib would have no trouble fitting a swamped barrel.
By the time half stocks became popular we importing and making lots of straight barrels

This was my effort at a "Poor Boy". This is a .45 Cal non Swamped barrel. The stock is wild Cherry. the lock is a left hand "Ashmore Warrented " that was significantly reworked and tuned. It does have a single set trigger. All Iron furniture. Although likely not historically accurate as a poor boy , it has the appearance that I was trying to achieve. This rifle was built in the late 1980s. It is a pleasure to carry in the woods and is fun to shoot at the range.

How was this stock finished? It looks great!

This is my Appalachian poor boy in 40 caliber. It was built by Kevin Blevins, he is a great builder and great to work with.
