Actually as a Boyer, I'm sure Eric always has extra/scrap wood he can make such things from.

It is osage, made from bow wood scrap and really works well as it it turned to just slightly less than bore size.

I don't sweat the small stuff Gus.

On my starter; I pop the ball just inside the barrel and cut the patch then use the rest of the length to get the patched ball past my jug choke, I made it a little long on purpose.

That's an excellent point. Come to think of it, my old Brown Bess Carbine Rammer had a button on the end that must have been just large enough that cards didn't slip in the bore. I just never thought about it at the time, though.

My 1850's 12G. sxs ramrod has a button on the end also. Never understood why till I read this post though. Makes a lot of sense now.
