How important is a gusset in a possibles bag? Does it really add space? Make it easier to grab stuff? Ready to purchase a decent bag and not sure if a gusset is needed. Thanks, Joe

Just one' guys opinion - free advice and doubtless well worth the cost, but here goes:

the gusset does add a little space, but i feel that the real advantage is that it helps the bag maintain shape and structure, so it allows the widget you want and not have to pull out the gadget and the thingie at the same time.

so, if given the choice of gusset or not gusset, i would take the bag that has one over the bag that does not.

hope this helps

good for you. Hopefully you won't need to fill either style full. But what I find most useful with the gusset is not room for gear but room for hands! Cold hands fumbling blindly while nervously keeping an eye on a deer that was too stupid to flee after the first shot.

All this talk reminds me of a story.

Ed got back to camp late and looked into the cooking pot. It was about empty.

"WHO ATE ALL THE FOOD? WHAT AM I GOING TO EAT? THE POT IS EMPTY!!"

Bill looked up and said, "Well, when you didn't show up we decided to eat without you.
It was mighty good but I only ate my share.
Gusset most of it."

Speaking for myself, Black Jaque nailed it. :hatsoff:
I need the gusset for my clumsy hands to rummage around and find things. :haha: The actual space required to carry what's in my bag isn't all that much, but if the bag were ONLY that size, I'd most likely have to dump it out :shocked2: whenever I wanted one specific item. :surrender:

I know this is an older post but the "stupid deer" comment rang home. lol I have actually taken a buck on the second shot. It was a windy day in November and he was 45 yards away on the mistake shot. unbelievable i reloaded and got him. I was up in a tree stand!

No BS it happened.:)

I have done that, too. Distance was about 100 yards, evening light was fading fast and I was sitting behind a hay bale. First shot hit a "swale" rim which hid most of the body. Second shot caught her coming up out of the shallow swale and the rest is history.

That is too cool!!!

that stuff cannot happen on the couch in front of the "tube"!!!

Shot a cow elk once at 50 yds, .50 prb. She, nor any of the herd, even looked up at the shot :shocked2: and of course I thought I missed. Hiding behind a large pine I reloaded and when I raised the gun to shoot again she toppled over. No doubt I cold have shot twice. Perfect double lung!
