After an absence of 13 years from muzzle loading shooting, I am getting back to the range.

I am going to buy a Leatherman Possibles Bag and would like your opinion on which one to buy. The styles I like are the Trapper Bag and the Woodland Bag. I would be delighted to hear your opinions on these bags.

I thought the Trapper Bag might be better because it is smaller.

Your choice in bag depends on what you want to use it for. Rifle or fowler - shooting shot involves more "stuff" to keep up with & a bag with more than one compartment or a bit bigger might be better for a fowler but not needed for a rifle. Are you trying to portray a specific period/place or do you just want a quality "generic" bag?

Hi Coot

Thanks for your reply.

I am looking for a good quality generic bag for rifle shooting at this time. I am not trying to portray any particular period. I don’t have a fowler at this time and will get another bag for a fowler when I get one.

Regards

Doc Carver.

Hello Doc.
I have a Woodland bag for my rifle gear - the main pocket covers the "use all the time" stuff, cleaning, maintainance and "just in case stuff" is in the buttoned pouch at the rear of the bag. The pocket at the front is useful for all the small bits that get lost in the bottom of the main compartment.
I tend to use the Woodland as a range bag - I also have a fowler bag which has many useful pockets for the shotgun bits and the size is plenty enough for field use.
Whichever you get you'll like the quality and I've found the service excellent.

Howdy Doc,
I have a Leatherman Trapper model bag. I've found it big enough to carry all that I need or may need (I had the optional patch knife sheath sewn on even though I use pre-cut patches). I also went with the all leather straps as I like to hang a bullet block from the strap as well. I've found items for all the pockets and still have a little extra room left over. I am getting their smaller belt bag to carry the wallet and keys and so on while at rendezvous.

Use a selfmade one made of suede brain tanned leather which I coloured with black tea to make the leather more dark. Have one big comopartment and one small at the inside for caps, flints and other small parts.
By the way what are you thinking. Is it better to use several possible bags for each rifle/fowler one or one for all?

I use several,or one for each gun..Besides they are fun to make

What are your preferences for belt vs. shoulder bags. Never having used one, but being about to buy one, I'm wondering if a belt bag would be more comfortable and stable. I suppose if belt bags were better, we'd see more of them around.

Are belt bags not period correct?

Would a belt bag have any implications for the horn?

Don

:v I have his Woodland bag and find it's comfortable and easy to use and certainly has enough room to carry whatever you might need, The PC Police may not like it ( so what ) and you may not be able to wear it at a 'vous as it is machine stitched---but, you are getting your money's worth and it will last forever, that is if you keep it out of a lab puppies way. :hatsoff:

I stay away from belt bags, shoulder bags cause less pain in my back. I think that back in the day it would be eaiser to grab your shoulder bag and musket on the run rather than having to fool with a waist belt. I have two Leatherman bags, one being the woodsman and the quality of both are excellent.

I bought the Woodland bag and it is true quality.

Considering hind sight, if I were to buy another bag, I would buy the Trapper since it's smaller. I find myself taking less and less with me.

My wife is always looking to simplify my outdoor endevaors. Awhile back, she said she had solved how to carry my cleaning solution with me. She found a 1 oz. pump hair spray bottle at Walmart, it fits perfect in a snack baggy.

Did you tell her you waited your entire life, savin' up for a top quality bag, while she's had dozens of cheap ones. :surrender:

Doc it took me quite some time to find a bag I liked--Just curious if you took a look at Grey Bear Lether?----John Giblin does great work. Very knowledgeable about what you might want.

I ordered a Trapper Possible Bag on 2 February 2007 and it arrived in down town Brisbane Australia today 14 February 2007. How’s that for service. I am delighted with the bag. The leather is thick and very supple and has a great aged look. It is better than what I saw on their internet site.

Thankyou The Leatherman.
