There's a reason why the British used those Belly Boxes and later "Ball Pouches " to keep 8-12 rounds at the ready and the cartridge box was full of packs of cartridges.....because most engagements didn't go past the initial first few volleys before someone wavered, then it was time to fix bayonets.
It's not like soldiers were firing 50+ rounds in sustained firefights........
