I can`t belive this one. I ordered 25# Geox powder last week from track. well I called them today and told them that I had`nt recived a conformation or a tracking number on my order, I was told that since it was the holidays that it would`nt be shipped till this week and I would get a conformation number and a tracking number before it was shipped, well guess what the powder showed up at my house today, and there was no one home so UPS just left it on the back step. I would have thought after 9/11 you would have to sign for it. I guess not. who knew :youcrazy:

Every case I've had delivered was just left on the front porch

UPs may have found a neighbor to sign for the box. They would rather do that, than have to come back, or require you to travel down to their local shipping center to pick it up yourself.

Depending on the driver, and the rate paid for Fed. Ex, it might be left, or not. Again, if they can find anyone to sign for it, they do.

I used to have an understanding with my UPS driver that any package sent to my home address should be delivered to me at my office down town, where a secretary would sign for it if I was not in. If the office was not opened when he arrived, he would leave the package, and sign the slip himself . No one really cared. And I always got my package.

Basically you pay a Hazmat Fee because it is hazardous to transport. But as you have found out it is apparantly not hazardous to deliver it or leave it in anyplace or anywhere they can to get rid of it at.
After all, they do get paid to Deliver, not to Think or Be Concerned...... :(

Interesting. When I buy BP here in PA I have to show a picture ID, sign under a xerox of that ID, and the clerk makes an entry in some sort of logbook. There is also a limit on the quantiy that can be purchased at one time but I do not recall what it is. Before 9/11 we had a rash of bombings in this area that were severe. On one occasion my whole street was blocked off because of a suspicious package. The person/s doing the bombing blew up some cars and we are lucky nobody was killed. There was a report that in one case the bomb had been fixed with a mercury switch which tells me the person doing this was trying to kill someone. Anyhow, it all stopped after 9/11 and they never caught the people doing it. Maybe that has something to do with signing for BP here. I do not know if this applies to all of PA but to the area I live in, it sure does.

The dealer that is selling your Black Powder is covering his A$$ and his FFL by requiring you to sign for the powder, have ID, etc. None of that is required by Federal law. There may be some local ordinance that does so. Back in Pre-1968 days, our local village passed an ordinance that required the sporting goods stores to have people sign when they bought any gun or ammo. The police could come in and check the lists. I don't know that they ever did- certainly not on a regular basis.

But, this is Illinois, which is the most screwed up state in the Union when it comes to crime and gun laws. Chicago has a handgun ban but accounts for about 80% of the murders committed in the entire state!

SHHHHHH don't tell anybody. It's almost like the good old days when you could walk into a hardware store and buy T.N.T.
I am truly worried that some conserned social reformer will get wind that we crazy BP folk can buy up to 50lbs of BP and raise holy hell about it, not to mention the fact that we use pure lead and one shot at a time are distroying the enviornment :shake:
So shhhhhhhh

Could be the state established an override to the BATF regs, making things more stringent there...the State Fire Marshall's Office is the focal point for such things

I'm in SE Pa., and I don't recall signing to buy blackpowder at any of the 3 shops I've gotten some from. Just last fall I bought 10 lbs. from Powder Inc. and expected to be required to sign because their web site says so, but when it came I didn't get out soon enough and could only watch the truck leave as I picked up the box.

Paul,

When I started getting powder from The Maine Powder House I had to provide J.R. with a photocopy of my PA drivers license. To give proof of age, residency, etc. I also included a copy of my PA concealed carry permit, though not really required. I also had to write that I was using the powder for sporting purposes.
Had to go through the same thing with Powder, Inc.

This is required by federal law. Once the powder supplier has this on file one simply orders powder.

At the gunshop level. Federal law.
When a customer wants to purchase black powder it is the duty of the seller to insure that the person is of a legal age to purchase black powder. The seller must also insure that the powder will be used for legal purposes.
I have watched this at Dixon's shop. The seller will casually ask the customer what they are going to shoot the powder in.

You ought to hear some of the tales that come out of the powder distributors. From several years ago.
A farmer had an ice jam on a creek running through his meadow. The ice jam was causing the creek to flood his meadow. He found that he could not buy dynamite. So he came up with this idea of filling a piece of 4 inch PVC pipe with black powder and use a piece of cannon fuse to set it off. needless to say that the sale was not made.

First off don't complain about something that ain't broke. :nono:
Second you already signed for the powder when you sent you drivers license and paper work in at the begining of the order.
NOPE-- UPS does not require a signature, unless signature is requested by shipping party..
Again quit asking for more regulation especially in the name of 911. :surrender: We are already under enough regulation that effects "us" and not them.
You guys keep harping on powder delivery and it will end.
Bill

Powder sales is to be logged into a log book similiar to the FFL bound book.

Here in Minnesota. The shop I buy my Black powder from, I also have to sign for it. Its the city that wants him to keep records of who buys it.

Paul, have you been to Massachusetts?

Hey, your state at least has a discretionary permit to carry system. Illinois and Wisconsin are the last two states in the country with NO permit to carry law to allow Law abiding Citizens to protect themselves and their families . Wisconsin has failed to override a Governor's veto twice in the past three years, by one vote, or it would also have a Permit to Carry law. Its the bigots from Milwaukee who are scared to death of the idea that a black man might have the right to have a gun who are blocking it in Wisconsin, with the same dirty little argument, whispered in back rooms, taking place in Chicago that is stopping Illinois from having such a law.

Gun laws never kept anyone from having a gun! I just makes it illegal for them to have one. A crook don't pay attention to laws or he wouldn't be a crook.

I would think after that black powder is the least of the problems they would be looking at , youv never seen a 1 pound can of smokless treated right then go BANG its a lot more power than 25 pounds of 4f or even flash. ( just ck out how fast a say 30 cal ball will go with 3f say 30 grs then try to come up with a weight about the same in modren rifle useing Bullseye, No contest.) Fred

Couldn't agree more. I doubt some rag head is staking out my front porch waiting to steal my Goex or the old ladies Avon. If they are, the rag heads are smart enough not to talk about it and don't draw attention to themselves. Hmm ? Wonder how many rocket scientist sent an e-mail to Homeland Security on this?

UPS left my powder on my front steps two weeks ago. Not sure how many hours it sat there in the rain before I got home. :cursing:
