As a former smith I would not shoot the gun. Messing with a CVA barrel and breech is bad news.

A Quality barrel and breech would add less money and retune more in future sales let alone lawyer fees.

I built a CVA kit rifle it had a leaky drum. I removed the drum and used teflon tape it worked. The threads worn't cut clean not striped just not cut clean. Your gun smith should not turned the the drum the kit instructions state if the hammer does not line up with the nipple to heat the hammer with a torch and bend it to line it up and not to turn the drum.
