Just got in 8 lbs from Graf's today. $18.85 per pound average; sound high? 4 lbs of it is Swiss. I have been wanting to try it for a while now to see if the price difference is worth it. $19.99 vs $11.59 for the Graf's house brand.

The last 10 pound lot I bought from Grafs was about $12-13 per pound delivered if I remember right.

Has anyone tried the Graf Black powder? Is it as good as Goex? Is Graf 2F the same granulation as Goex 2F? It's a dollar cheaper - wonder if a 50/50 mix with Goex would be a good powder...

There are a lot of discussions about Graf powder. Everyone likes it as far as I know.
I wouldn't ever mix powder types.

"I wouldn't ever mix powder types." Dawg, why not? I'm curious. The non-Goex powders seem, in general, to have a higher ignition temperature. Wouldn't mixing the substitute with Goex allow the Goex to catch then ignite the substitute?

I'm lucky enough to live about 60 miles from Powder, Inc.

There's a guy (I believe from there) who sets up at a semi-annual muzzleloader shoot locally and sells powder for 10-12 bucks per pound.

Takes nerves of steel though, the guy usually has a lit cigarette in his mouth. :shocked2: :haha:

I believe mixing powders would lead to inconsistencies in burn rate, velocities...etc which would give poor accuracy. I may be wrong.

This is not to lessen your comment or to detract, but everything has gone way up. I read an investor report the other day and the price of steel has gone up 20%. Also - when you go shopping, compair the weight of the contents in the package to a previous purchace of the same item. An experienced shopper (like me who does this for the family since the "wife" left us) easily recognizes that while the prices have stayed the same, or perhaps risen a skoshie, -- the contents weight has gone down and so has the size of the can. Just a bit in most cases - but we know how thes bits add up.

You could mix brands of powder as long as it is same F and black powder without bad results, but I would not mix with black powder substitutes.

Even if he paid the hazmat and ordered the min 5 lbs from another supplier the total cost would be about 95 bucks delivered to his door for 5 lbs.

That supplier would be charging a lot more per pound than I would want to pay. I get my powder from Clarksville Gun and Rod, delivered 25 pounds to my door for ~ $11.90/lb including HazMat and about $11.00 shipping. I would estimate that 5 lbs. ordered from them would come to no more than $15-16/lb. delivered. True, the cost is more up front when buying bulk, but the powder won't go bad.
