Had a question about powder horn straps ideals posted, didn't get to read the ideals, and now it seems as it has dissappeared! I would like ideals powder horn straps to hang my horn with other than just a leather lace and how to make them?

Mine is canvas backed jute with a deerskin edging (matshes my haversack strap). A little different and comfy to wear.

I too, prefer leather. The heavier latigo straps feel most comfortable, -1/2" to 3/4' wide. Find 'em at barn sales, in the form of old reins or bridle pieces.

There are sort of different kinds of rawhide. If you are talking about "rawhide" boot laces, they work pretty good and I never had one break. Best if the horn isn't too large or heavy.

Afternoon squirrellvr
I found these at the dollar store, They were $5 belts on sale for a dollar (go figure), I like em cause they don't slide forward as I walk or go through brush like my braided leather ones did,,,, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/straps.jpg

The leather laces I've seen have been strips of leather, but not rawhide.

I've never seen rawhide laces. The ones I've seen have just been strips of oil or vegetable tanned leather.

I concur with Swampman. Keep it simple, and fundtional. A simpled half inch leather strap is all that is needed.

I guess there are many ways or things to use on this...but what I use is leather lacing, the kind you get at hobby lobby...a large bag, I think it sells for about 3 to 4 bucks...I make a braid of it in the length I want and go with that. One of the things I like about using them is the horn does not shift around as much as it would with a smoother material. Not sure how pc it is...but I figure back in the fur days that type of leather was a lot easier to come by rather than some other product brought in by some trader.

reason im asking is. I have about 35ft of an old rieta that I think would make a good strap its round soft and plentyful.
