Mornin boys, Got a ? for ya,, What is the different between ffg and ffffg and t7 ?? Is it a hotter powder or just finer grain???

I believe T7 is a BP substitute, similiar to Pyrodex. Not sure who makes it, possibly Goex.

ffffg is very fine powder that some shooting Flintlocks use for priming. It's a toss up as to which is more popular to shoot as the main charge, FFg or FFFg. FFg is a coarser powder than FFFg and burns a tad slower.

Not sure if this helps or answers your question. There many that are smarter on this than I am.

777 is manufactured by Hodgon, just like Pyrodex. It is a sulferless (less corrosive) substitute with an ascorbic acid (sugar) base rather than charcoal.

It has a higher ignition temp than BP, with a granulation closer to that of 3F than Pyrodex. 777 will not work in flintlocks without duplexing. Some caplocks require duplexing as well, though Musket caps ignite it OK.

777 is "hotter" in a volume to volume basis than 2F, 3F or Pyrodex.

See the Hodgon website for details/comparisons.

Thanks for the correction. I've used it in one of my T/Cs but it didn't perform how I would have liked. That's probably why I couldn't remember who made it.

2f vs 3f..... 2f burns a tad slower and has lower pressure which = less felt "kick"
I shot it in my 50 and always tip to the lock side and kick or bump the stock a few times to settle it in to assure a more positive ignition and not as commom " click, bang, boom" hangfires.
personaly, I like 2f.
handguns, like my trapper will shoot 2f, but 3f gets a complete burn in the shorter barrels.

my $.02

T7 and pyrodex contain potassium perchlorate. If you look at the msds you will see the powder isnt totally water soulable.
When t7 first came out people that take the breech plugs out of their guns found out they were stuck tight after shooting.
T7 is a very powerfull powder but its best used in a modern muzzleloader, dont seem like there is any real advantage for its use in sidelocks IMHO.
