Hey guys log time creeper first time posting and first time in the black powder shooting iv been involved In the unmentionables since childhood anywaaaays had a minor lil kerfuffle today that I guess left a small amount of powder stuck to the back of my hand and some how had the side blast from my revolver ignited some of this powder on my hand branding me with a lil of this powder of course I learned my lesson about spilt powder but I was wondering any one else got some nice powder tattoos??

Yep, the worst is a spray from the cap or from the touchhole on a flintlock. It gets injected into your skin. Hurts for quite awhile.

Yeah found out today those lil flecks of cap can get you pretty good lol was loading my .36 kinda heavy 25gr I think and with the stock nipples and from time to time the burst caps would catch me in the hand pretty good but I like to think that's half the fun of these old six guns lol

In my early years of shooting, I was at a Missouri BP shoot. It was a busy firing line, but announcing "Flintlock" was the norm before firing. I heard "Left Handed Flintlock" and my brain only payed attention to "Flintlock". Needless to say, my bare right arm hanging out got fried. That only happened once in my life.

Honestly quite proud of them I'm only 27 and the only one of my friends interested in the old school six guns and not going to lie I'm kinda glad I got to pay my I does out of the way right off the bat

Been shooting off hand lately. Working on my grip and hand came to far back looking for my rifle balance point, shot, touch hole debris got two finger tips. FYI, the gases come out of the touchhole is hot. Far enough inbedded that the grains are still there little black spots.

I get problems with the underside of my left wrist. When I shoot the shotgun the percussion cap sprays everything on the underside of my support arm. If I wear a jacket the arm is protected except for the wrist and part of the bottom of my hand. The wrist breaks out in a really bad rash later.

I need to find some leather gloves that cover my wrist and doesn't expose any skin between the sleeve and the glove. I'd like to get something traditional looking but not like the old style cavalry gloves. The leather needs to take the punishment of the percussion cap but thin enough to use in warmer weather.

Any ideas?

Yep got one on my left side. Nephew fired his Bresien heavy barrel flintlock heavy bench gun. 190 grains 2f. he had up a diverter of cardboard like we always did with a rock lock but it was the second day at the match and the carboard did not hold up. OUCH! I lost a good wool shirt. I wear the Tattoo proudly today it happened around 1990.

He said payback for when you cut me dressing out a deer. I always say now "My knife has tasted your blood and will again" Thank you Wes Studi who I stole it from.

Shooting an underhammer on a bench is fun. All that stuff that bounces off the bench back at ya! That is one you have to wear good shooting glasses.

Many permanent black dots on my forearm and wrist from when I shot right handed flintlocks left handed.

No Tats but I know how you feel. Quite a few years back I went camping and forgot matches. I had BP with me and thought I could start the fire that way. I didn't realize how fast it burned and thought it burned slower. Lit it with the car lighter. Burned my hand and even worse, it burned so fast it didn't even light the fire.

FYI: I once talked to a man who looked in the touch hole after a pan flash. He said the doc took 200+ powder grains out of his face. Glasses saved his sight.

That's probably where I got the idea. Not necessarily Daniel Boone but from TV. Sometimes things just stick in your head.

I too got the hot cinder injection in my left middle finger once while shooting my Lyman GP flintlock. I tried supporting the rifle with my left elbow on my chest and my left hand under the lock with my fingers curled up beside the lock. When I shot, it felt like I just got my fingers hit with a hammer. It was toward dusk and I went to the ER to see if they could pick out the cinders. It was bleeding to much to see them and, in retrospect, they should have used a rubber band tourniquet to stop the bleeding while working on me. So they charcoal is still under my skin, but I can barely see it.
