A most excellent example Wayne. Thankyou for posting that. Outstanding! But, beyond the skills of "most" 18th c. American makers. Still though, a good example of the process and quality that is possible. Again, carving is much the same as engraving. The finished work will look no better than the design, no matter the skill of execution. One has to practice drawing. A lot!
 
I think you can get all you need from part 3. That shows layout and execution to the finish. Excellent work!! I have but one criticism. The edge of the butt plate is too thick, and does not match with the thickness of the sliding lid plate. A minor thing to some I suppose, but does break the smooth flow of these edges to the eye, and is not that difficult to do. Here is how it should match. IMO.

David Price's carving tutorials are now for sale so probably not available on the site
