How

From what my Expat Army mates tell me, the price of Beaver in the Land of Smiles has actually dropped considerably this year.....
Not sure, for me beaver prices were a little better this year. I got between $35 and $50 for finish skins. These were from 35 to 50 lbs animals so oddly enough it came out to be about $1 a pound. Castor however has dropped from a few years ago. This was from the state auction sale.

If you can’t afford the price of a humble flint perhaps you should find a cheaper hobby. BTW I don’t see any bitching about the price of black powder along with the flint rant.

I don't think I was "b-tching" or ranting, merely pointing out the fact the price of flints has going up .

Pssst....theres only 2 legged Beaver in LoS ! ("Land of Smiles" being Thailand).
I'm sure that if you'd served as a Marine you'd know what I referred to.

Seriously can you name just 1 thing that has not risen in price?
Imperial stick butter in the four stick pack. Was a buck before the plandemic. Went to a buck and a quarter in 21. Continued to rise to $1.59 as of a few weeks ago. Now has dropped back to a buck. Everything else has went up.

Probably a trick Tim

Well it is Walmart. They raise a price on an item astronomically then a week or two later drop it back a little and call it a rollback. Might be a conspiracy. But on the flints, if they are going up too I wonder how hard it is to knap our own. Never tried yet.
Guess it depends on the person and the severity of the need ! Easy for some and impossible for others but the majority can learn to make workable flints for themselves with a little instruction, patience and practice..

knapping is not hard ,but your first attempt will try your will . watch some youtube vids and try to find some good chert, you can find online
make a bopper copper plumbing cap over a large lead sinker mounted in a handle. leather to protect your lap/pants leg from cutting jeans and skin, cut proof gloves and SAFETY GLASSES and band aids, a safe area to knap away from kids and pets

Well, I was wandering the creek beds, and don’t you know, the resident copperhead told me since the price of gun flints went up, he needed a few more mice or frogs to eat. He read it in the backwoods man magazine that blew out of someone’s truck…..price gouging everywhere!😂

Side note, the wifes pretty bent with Imperial for changing the recipe on their sheep grease. It no longer works for her blue ribbon chocolate chip cookes.

Yep, they also changed the water content in their butter. Messed up a bunch of my wife's recipes. She had to go back to the drawing board on a bunch of stuff because of that.
