Priming flask

I use a small brass tube that dispenses about 3 grains of 4F every time you depress the spout in the pan. I got it at TOW and like it a lot.

Whichever one you prefer. I personally do not allow a powder horn or flask anywhere near my rifle, but rather transfer everything to a separate measure to load and prime. I do own a flask with a spring spout on it and find it to be dodgy at times.

Like he said, which ever one you want.
There's a small issue with the plunger/dispenser types.
You press it against the pan to dispense right(?), the pan has fouling from the previous flash,, the plunger picks up fouling,, fouling is hygroscopic,, without care and cleaning, the dispenser nipple get's plugged. It's not a big deal if your aware and on it,, but it's a stumper for some folks.

"dodgy at times" So, you say you don't use one, then you say you do. Which is it?

I also use the brass plunger one from TOTW. It works really well so far. Trying my hand at a little priming horn that has a pick on the stopper soon and will report back on this thread.

Since it's a noob question I'll throw in my answer. Don't use one. The powder in your big horn will work well enough. In my rifles I load and prime with 3F and my Bess loads and primes with 2F. One less horn to mess with.

Mine is an original 1860 model KODAK 35mm film can. The guys back then liked em cuz they never seen plastic before, I like em cuz they hold enough for several shots and when ya squeeze em they pour real well right into my measure.

I do have a pair of upside downsy hanging like shotgun flasks for powder n shot. They are not HC correct though like my original KODAK. Don't recall where I picked em up put they were cheap. If yer interested I can send ya one for say...$8.00  (today only)

I own them, I use them, I transfer everything from them to a separate measure, the measure is what I let near my rifle. on the flask: the spring is a little dodgy, powder has a tendency to obstruct the mechanism.

Just to clarify: I also keep them on my person, as I found them to be a more efficient method of transporting powder than just loose in my pockets.

I use both kinds. I have a small "plunger" type that dispenses 3 gr that I carry when I deer hunt. It doesn't hold much, but since I haven't needed more than one shot, it holds enough. For small game, I carry a small priming horn that gives me plenty for a day of shooting.

For ease of use, the plunger-type is nice (unless, like others have mentioned, it picks up moisture). The priming flask works fine, but it is a little more "clumsy" and sometimes a larger qty than I want comes out quickly.

I have one made by Cutfingers (on this board) that is the plunger type. It works flawlessly and is very handy to carry...I prime with 4FFFF

I prime from my horn, as for me 'priming powder' dosn't make any difference. However I do shoot some prodex as I have some pounds of it. So I have a horn that holds about 2 oz of powder. I pour a priming load of 15 grains then my fake powder charge on top. I use the little priming horn then to prime the pan. About 50 shots fit in it.

Why does it matter? Games.

I bought a plunger one for my hopefully near-delivery flintlock, and only used it for a dry ball. Works fine. I'll take a chance on dispensing directly in the pan when I get a flinter.

I have loaded from a flask a long time ago. I don't do it now...

What type of priming flask do you use? Free flow type or one that dispenses measured amount. Noob question other suggestions welcome.
I use a priming horn which is filled with 4fg. I may change this practice when shooting my trade gun, the lock and the flint are so much bigger then the lock and flint in my rifle.

For many years I used small brass flasks with wood plugs (made from 7.62 x 54R cases) but Horner75 made me a tiny little flat horn (w/wod plug) that holds an ounce of FFFFg which I now treasure and use for priming.

When I shot my Bess I primed with a little powder from the measure dribbled from the horn. That was 100% ignition with 2Fg but had Frankenstein springs.
