Nice job, looks like one I've seen in Backwoodsman magazine. I made a triangular frame based on a Backwoodsman article and made a bag out of an old bluejean leg to strap to it. Its light wieght and serves well as a day pack. Been wanting to make one more substantial and you've given me the inspiration I need.

Not at all. I did a mortis and tendon backed up by leather stripping I wet than tied tight.

I linseeded the wood than I shellacked the leather stripping with some traditional shellac I had kicking around from my grandfather who passed thirty years ago.
I read that shillack was HC so I used it to beef up the leather and keep it from unraveling.

It appears as though you've matched the contours of your back with the frame mebers down the sides. Did you?

Also, do the cross members curve away from your back any?

Great looking setup, just wondering how comfortable a guy can construct one to be when carrying a full load.

Morning boys,
I am blessed by having some great lodge pole of all sizes behind my house so I just picked and choosed what would be the most comfty to my back.
I have no doubt that I can pack 60 to 80 lbs all day every day and only get sore sholders but that part of the game.

I had one I made a lot like that in my early 20's, It was better (more comfortable) than the aluminum frames popular then.
