Comes with one ball-conical mould. In pure lead, cast bullet weighs 2,131 grains, just over 1/3rd of a POUND........good on bothersome mice and such......
Ball in muzzle is .490 for 50 cal blk powder rifle (I use them in my 5 gauge shotgun for buckshot.....)

What is the recoil like or can you describe it?

Recoil is lite for a 4bore.
The rifling promotes soft kick. A lot better then real fast twist.
Weight of gun saves you also.
Really not bad at all. If got 8 bores that kick worse.....shooting only 300 grains and 1365 gran ball-conical, but one is only 13.5lbs, another rifle at 12lbs tapered barrel and one original FAST rifling rifle at 12.5lbs is flat out mean......

My avatar is the muzzle of the fast twist original Elephant SAFARI rifle, 1 in 48.
With heavy powder and heavy conical, more FELT recoil then the 4bore...

Nice looking rifle. I built one in .72 using a Pete Allen action and an Oregon barrel, 104 ROT. Haven't shot mine yet.

I don't think I could handle shooting that rifle, but I sure can admire the craftsmanship that went into it. Somebody really knew what he was doing. I don't know much, really, about the guns and rifles carried by Victorian-era adventurers, but this rifle has "the look."

In considering these arms with super-sized bores, it's hard for a lot of us to get past the recoil. I don't think rifles of this type were ever intended to be shot a lot. Even the men who carried them, back in the day, dreaded actually shooting them. I remember reading of one old-time African hunter who wrote of developing a permanent and incurable flinch after shooting a four bore. However, the rifle up for sale here sounds as if it was designed and built to mitigate recoil as much as possible. I'm in awe.

And it comes with moulds, too! The only accessory lacking is a pith helmet.

in the bush a percussion gun is and would be very much more reliable on dangerous game than a flinter. say a charging bull elephant! yes I know under the right circumstances that a flinter can also kill them. JMHO.
