Yeah, that wood is in bad condition, the breaks we can deal with the rot is another matter. I saw one golden age flintlock that was in that bad condition that was repaired. It was a family heirloom that had hung over a fireplace for too many decades. The restorer carefully epoxied it back together and refinished. Then he showed the family the two places on the gun where he had reinforced enough that they could "rehang" the gun over the fireplace and told them that the gun was not strong enough to shoot since it was basically nothing but epoxy and paint.

I hate to see any original be broken up into parts, but this just might be one of those times.

I recently acquired a Potsdam which had been cut down exactly as this one had been done. The good news is the stock on mine is somewhat better but still close to firewood. I have seen a number of cut down Potsdams but none were done like these two which is unlike a typical Bannerman job.
