Yes, there is a ban on lead hunting ammo in good ol' Commiefornia. I still shoot lead in my muzzleloaders. I hear some guys are trying Zinc but I think that's crazy. Zinc is hard and probably doesn't obturate well.
I'm co-miserating with you here in Northern Kalifornia. The boss and I were born here and have no plans on leaving, I'm too old to pull up roots anyways.
I've picked up brass ball for my sidelock that I'll use when the season starts. They shoot decent enough for 75 yards and that's about as far as my shot would be where I hunt.

I know how you feel , we find it hard to leave the Monterey Bay Area. We've been een in the same house 35 years and married 56 years. I'm close to great ocean fishing and since my legs and knees have given out I can't hunt anymore. I do love to get out and burn powder.

A friend just told me he shoots patched ball bearings in his 50 cal T/C Hawkins.

I'm up in Sonoma County. Monterey area is nice too. Just a 25 minute drive to launch in Bodega Bay.
In same house for 33 years since the boss started running my life. But I wouldn't trade her, no siree.

That's a nice area, in my younger days, 60 years ago, I did some gold prospecting ,hunting and fishing in that area.

Sorry for the delay, my grandkid from Washington has been here. No sleds, I like sunny days even if it is a chilly 55 degrees in December.

Welcome from Texas! We would welcome you TO Texas, if you decide to flee.
We can have guns, but the State limits most everything else.
The politicians are scoundrels, but they are handy to have around.
Everyone should own one or two...
I have guns and gobs of ammo, plenty of BP and cast balls and Conicals. Ready for whatever.

As I’m sure you know, California does not have “Weather”! Tennessee has all the seasons…….sometimes all in the same week. It can rain anytime and often does. Weather reports are guidelines and by no means accurate. It gets hot here and it is humid but not like Texas or Louisiana humid. I’m still new enough to the area that the weather just makes me laugh. I mean rain in July and August!!!! What is this magic????
Sorry, had to check out for a bit. California is a very diverse place, some places get "weather", we call it sunshine, other places get "weather" they call too much sunshine, and there are those place that call it not enough sunshine and where I live we call it perfect. So there you go, California does have 4 seasons but not all in 5 seconds like the Southeast.

Wait until Fall to move to Texas - it's still too hot to enjoy the outdoors.
The Hill Country is the nicest part of the state, IMO.
The East Texas Piney Woods are exactly that, and have lots of deer and hogs.
South Texas is even hotter, but the Big Bend is beautiful!
The Panhandle is mostly flat, and gets cold weather straight from Canada, and tornados from the Midwest.
Now, the people are different than in CA, and the laws are very different.
But if you think you would like to move here, come on! And bring something to share.
Like Lyle sings, "That's right, you're not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway."

We lived in San Antonio for a stretch it was nice for awhile until a snow storm stopped all of the traffic in SE Texas. Then there was the time several cars were swept away in a rain storm. But best of all was the time we were at Canyon Lake camping and it rained every day we were there and when my leave was over we couldn't get home due to flooding, gee that was such a nice time. I liked the fishing and hunting in the hill country though. Best of all was helping a rancher friend shoot wild hogs. I dropped quite a few with my 58 cal Hawkins, once that 435 grain bullet hit they just went to sleep. That Texas I loved

Golden Sky, unfortunately every state has their liberal “Art” area and Portsmouth happens to be ours in addition to a few others towns. But when you look at the big picture the live free or die state has few gun laws, is a constitutional carry state, great hunting and fishing to mention a few. Again, Unfortunately, we are currently stuck with dems at the federal level. I hope that changes in November. All in all not a bad place to live.
Guns & Ammo magazine every year does an extensive listing of the states, from one to fifty, rating them as to gun friendly or not. Very detailed, it's in the current October G&A magazine.

I'm in Eastern PA, very generally no earthquakes, some areas may flood now and again, it's hot and humid in Summer, but overall pretty nice. Big state for hunting, the Game News has a muzzleloading column, (I don't hunt) and shall issue carry. Few tornadoes, no Bigfoots spotted yet! Best, all.

Commiefornia is at the bottom of the list. I was born in this state, served my country for 2
Welcome,
Was/Is it your intention to mock PTSD as it's commenly known with your post?
Or are you actually a "Pro, Toe, Shooter, Disable"

No, that was a result of a joke a friend pulled on me. He handed me a BP pistol with a blank load and a rigged trigger, a very, very hair trigger that would not allow the hammer to hold more than a second. I cocked the gun pointing at the ground and was getting ready to raise it when it went off

The guys got a laugh, I got a surprise and a nick name PTS or Professional Toe Shooter , they later added the D as another joke when the VA rated me 100% disable due to service related injuries.

is it possible to just order parts and cobble them together in Ca.?
I can mail order BP guns in CA. But with Gov. Newscum and the so far left liberals that they are in the dark, BP mail order may become liberaled away. Who is going to defend the liberal non gun owners when the shooting starts? I'll throw them a stick and send them off to defend themselves 🤣.
