Hello,

Does anyone know where I might purchase ffg and ffffg black gunpowder in less than five and 25 pound batches?

Thanks!

Well, if you mean buying single cans, you're probably gonna have to get it locally if you can find a gunshop that carries it.

If you mean you'd like to order an odd numbered lot instead of multiples of 5, such as 12 pounds or something like that, I think Grafs will let you do that.

However, when you order over the internet, you have to pay about $20-25 (can't recall exactly) for a hazardous materials fee, regardless of whether your order 1 pound or 50. So, its always better to buy in bulk if you order it.

Basically, if you really only ever need 1-2 cans at a time, either place an internet order with several people so that you can split the cost or find it locally.

I found these folks while doing a web search and ordered up 5 lbs. online, including 4 lbs. of ffg and one of ffffg for priming.

Turns out that none of my local gun shops carry black powder because of very restrictive city storage ordnances.

Thanks for the answers!

I just found out this last Sat. that my local Bass Pro has Goex!! You have to ask for it, they keep it in a vault out of sight. Don't ask me why.

1 pound of 3F was 19.99 but that's cheaper than the HazMat fee.

Since you haven't told us where you live in your profile, and haven't offered that information here, its a bit difficult to answer your question.

FIND FRIENDS who shoot black powder. Everyone is in the same situation when it comes to buying Black Powder- or perhaps you hadn't noticed.

We order case lots- splitting the order among friends, to keep the cost low, and divide that Haz mat fee as much as possible. You can order up to 2 cases at one time, for the one Haz Mat fee, of $22.50, which means that you divide that cost between 50 lbs. of powder($.45 per lb).

Yeah, it takes a large group of shooters ordering powder in 5 lb. lots( 10 friends) to place such an order, but when you see the cost savings, its worth the effort. ( $.45 per pound or $2.25 per 5 lb. order, rather than a 5 lb. order PLUS shipping and $22.50! AND, the cost of the powder per pound goes down, too, with the larger order. ) :shocked2: :surrender:

as paul said don't make where you live we can help you easier that way. if you live close i could take you to b-p gun shop.
