I don't know about you, but I haven't seen one of those in at least 6 months. Are retailers still doing that any more?

Deavertex, I’m guessing you haven’t signed up for the ‘notify me’ or whatever various retailers call it email. Typically see multiple ‘free Hazmat and shipping’ offer notifications every month, though I will admit a quick email topic search (I may have deleted some) shows I haven’t received notification of ‘free Hazmat’ since December 18th.

Not really comparative experience, but I use t-7 because I have read that the Pyrodex flavors are more corrosive, and so never tried them. Of course, everything that burns in a ML is corrosive, so there is no magic powder. T-7 just has a reputation of being less so. Shoots extremely well in my rifles. And packs a punch that Cowboy noted with his correct 15% reduction conversion for t-7 that should not be ignored. Still measured by volume like BP. It burns fairly clean compared to BP I have used, but it does leave a 'crud ring' at the chamber that is best swiped out between shots. SW

Real BP is a different animal, So is smokeless, as far as opening a can, closing it and going back to it a year or 2 later. I can’t be the only one to experience this. I’ve also had similar problems with American Pioneer substitute. I don’t think that’s even available anymore

Maybe a humidity problem we don't really have here in MT, Rawhide. I just killed two does with t-7, 2f that was left in my flask for a year. And I've been experimenting with the 3f for 3 years. Some from a flask and some from an open container. I am keeping an eye on them both though, because it would be foolish to entirely discount your experience. Maybe it's not operative here, or maybe it will take longer. By hook or crook, I will find out. Hopefully before pulling the trigger on a deer. Pre-season practice should tip me off to a problem SW

Depends on what state you’re in. If you reside in an anti gun state as I do it’s illegal to have that much power stored on your property. Some areas also have local ordinances banning delivery of BP to your residence.

Again, it depends on the state and some local municipalities within the state in question?

Last order for BP it was free Hazmat and if you had $150 minimum order you also got free shipping, so NO, they don’t always jack up shipping. You have to pay attention for the deals.

remember if you use pyrodex it will take 30 caps to set the charge off in a rifle and by the time you get home the barrel with be rotted away and have to be thrown out

Yeah, and a lawnmower in the garage with gas in the tank. Possibly sitting next to a lithium battery in a car or other device.

The majority of residential home fires start in the garage.

For the OP, who may use a pound of powder for several years, a sub off the shelf is an economical choice.

For me, being a member of a club that organizes group purchases of BP is the most economical and convenient way to buy. For the very best economical solution only shoot 32 caliber!

as my 'ignore' list grows....

Anyway, if you have a clear/clean channel a #11 will work just fine with T7. Magnum versions, obviously better. I did have an old .54 Renegade that was problematic from the day it arrived and I ended up trying the 209-conversion with it. The 'Mag-spark' is a great concept but time consuming but will likely get any stubborn/old percussion gun to fire.

Having been a member since 2005 I've only put two on ignore. The first departed of their own accord and the other remains silenced.

Subs work fine in cap locks. Some clean better than others. I save my BP for the flinter. I found Pyrodex a little dirty to shoot but that’s my opinion. T7 works great for me, I can drill an 8” plate at 100 yds with it and my rifle bore is shiny and clean. T7 is easy to get.
Regardless, clean properly when you’re done for the day and you’ll enjoy many happy outings.

I hadn’t really considered geography/ humidity, but it’s possible. I’ve had the same issue with T7 pellets.
