Pyrodex versesREAL Black powder short test:

Pyrodex is everywhere for sale, so shooters often have no short term choice. Also,
Pyrodex is more stable for storage than Triple -7 over a five year storage cycle.
But Pyrodex is corrosive and must be cleaned off the same day. When it does
ignite it is a little bit more powerful that BP but the delay in ignition, as
the video shows, makes it a no go with flintlocks. When Pyrodex first came out
there was a flurry of opposition due to slower ignition. In one of his early
black powder Guide Books Sam Fadala recommended a solution to that by
using the duplex "kicker" charge where a little BP is charged first and then the
main Pyrodex charge after it. It would be an interesting video to see that tried
in practice and compared. Thanks for the Video.

That can be arranged when it warms up here in KY. LOL

Mark, I will thank you ahead of time, for the video. give me a heads up when it happens. when it warms up.

I use 10gns 3F under my Pyrodex P charge in my flinters with 4F in the pan. I can't notice any difference in lock time and have worked up loads that match my BP loads over the chronograph. Since I have three pounds of 3F left, I figure I can last a couple years using Pyrodex if need be. (although I'd rather not)

And a month from now some knucklehead will ask the question whether he can use pyrodex in his flintlock again! And we will get the multitude of answers claiming to use a kicker charge of real black, blah , blah, blah.

This video will not convince everybody to only use black in their guns, because A. Some people are just plain stupid. B. They'll claim to only be able to find Pyrodex and that black isn't available. C. They're arrogant and stupid.

Videos like this will not convince stupid.

You think shooting pyrodex in a flintlock makes someone arrogant and stupid?

I'm afraid I don't understand you reasoning. Duplex loads in BP and Smokeless powder have been used for years. They serve a purpose for the user and has has nothing to do with their intellect or demeanor.

It's been common knowledge for years that pyrodex is not meant to be fired in a flintlock. At this point in time you'd think people would have learned by now. But obviously they haven't. If so. We'd not be having this topic continually rear it's ugly head.

Seriously, what is the point to duplex loads in a flintlock? There's no need for them. The only excuse that's even remotely valid is the one where there is a shortage of the real stuff, such as what we are experiencing lately. Other than that, there's no need in my opinion to be using duplex loads in a flintlock.

Arrogance is when you have information at hand, but choose to ignore it. Stupidity can be easily weaved into that argument. In fact they can easily be intertwined. This video is a prime example for not using pyrodex in a flintlock. But even when physically shown why it's no good, people like the guy in the video are still doing it. Why was he using it? He was either arrogant, ignorant, or stupid. I'd say he may not have been arrogant, because he converted to black once shown the difference. Was he ignorant, more than likely. With the ease of availability to enhance one's knowledge of the subject. This guy obviously didn't do his homework. Was he stupid, IMO a little bit yes. Again, boils down to availavle information and knowledge. He either listened to someone else, or simply didn't do his due diligence and learn what not to dump down the barrel of his flintlock. Well now he knows better. Doubt he will use pyrodex in that gun again, even in a duplex configuration.

Your comment is arrogant in itself. I don't care what anybody shoots if it works for them and they get results. I shoot lots of T7 and BP, and intend to try T7 in my flintlock when it arrives too. If it works, good for me cuz I can get it easily online, whereas BP I have to drive 3 hrs to pick up if I can find it. But there's always some guy like you who knows "best". Thanks for your wisdom and welcome to my ignore list.
