I was wondering if anyone ever used one of these on there octagone
barrel, seem there is no screws to drill and the mount fits on with a
magnet, would be great to test a new load with a lower power scope for range use:
if the mount really works:

They work good. I use one just for what you are talkig about. To test groups and then take it off.
Fox

lonewolf,
:hmm:I have never used a scope on my Hawken and
most likely never will. I can't see a 'scoped
pattern' helping me with my sorry poor eyesite
'open site pattern'.I will shoot as good as my
eyes let me and I remain humane to what game I
hunt.M2C

I used one a few years ago on my wifes muzzleloader and worked up a one hole group at 50 yards. I let it slip away and just picked up another one at the last gun show.

Snake eyes: I think you may have the horse and cart backwards, here. The scope is used to work up a load that shoots accurately from your gun. You use the scope at the range, when bench shooting, to remove human errors in sighting to find out which is the best load.

Bad eyes, bad shooting stance, and techniques are all added to whatever " best " group capability a load gives in your gun to produce the practical( read this as much larger) group you can shoot. After you know this second piece of information, you then decide on how close the game has to be to you before you fire a shot.

You are not the only " Mr Magoo " wandering around the woods, so my heart goes out to you, and you have my respect on limiting your shots to what you can see. :hatsoff:
